Abstract An incompressible viscoelastic fluid is considered along with a relaxation function μ, which satisfies, besides the condition μ ε L²(0, +∞), only those conditions deriving from the Second Law of Thermodynamics. In this paper it is proved that such weak hypotheses imply existence, uniqueness and stability theorems firstly for the Dirichlet dynamic problem and then for the relative boundary-initial history value problem.
