Abstract
The paper investigates some features of models of linear viscoelastic solids. Two
main results are exhibited. First, the second law of thermodynamics and a dissipativity
inequality are shown to be different from an inequality sometimes used in stability problems.
Second, such an inequality is proved to be overly restrictive in that makes the
viscoelastic solid be elastic.
