Existence of weak solutions for the equations of the electrorheological fluids

Abstract: Electrorheological fluids are characterized by a relevant increasing of the viscosity under the action of an electric field. We state a constitutive law which consists in viewing them as Bingham fluids controlled by a yield function depending on the intensity of the applied electric field. We couple this constitutive equation with the fundamental conservation laws which govern the motion of the fluid, and prove an existence result for a weak formulation of the corresponding initial-boundary value problem.
