**Abstract**:
The cultural dimension of Mathematics shows two main aspects, which are
dialectically intertwined. The
first aspect refers to Mathematics as a science useful to the description
and interpretation of reality, while the second one refers to Mathematics
as a reflective speculation,
not strictly dependent on
reality.The two faces of Mathematics should be equally present in school
mathematics, from the very
beginning. As a consequence, curriculum development have to planned
according to this perspective.
Some examples concerning primary education are discussed here.
