Abstract: A conjecture of Zagier links special values of Dedekind zeta functions to special values of polylogarithms. In this article we give a short account of recent results towards this conjecture. We also describe its analogue for the special value L(E,2), where E is an elliptic curve over Q. Finally we discuss the possibility of replacing E by a smooth projective curve over Q.
